73-year-old Abdullah Hussein had a cataract surgery done on his left year 5 years ago. However, it did not bring any significant improvement, and his right eye was also deteriorating at the same time.

Hussein’s fear of losing his vision completely was growing, and he refused to consult any more doctors.

"Since I would be blind anyway, I told myself that I will spend the rest of my life listening to the radio," Hussein said.

Soon after, media outlets announced that a team of expert Chinese ophthalmologists would be consulting in the Ophthalmic Centre at Hulhumale’ Hospital.

The sons of Hussein decided to take their father to the ophthalmic centre against his will.

After preliminary tests, a nurse found that Hussein’s condition was bad. According to her, the right eye could see nothing but light.

The Chinese doctor performed a simple 10-minute surgery and this changed Hussein’s world. He was overjoyed to see the Chinese doctor smiling at him.

Hussein returned to the hospital the next day for a follow-up check. The vision in the right eye had returned to 20/100, and the vision in the left eye improved to 20/40 after laser treatment.
