Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital welcomes the third Maldivian female surgeon

With the inclusion of Dr Althaf, the hospital now has a team of three surgeons.

Dr Althaf Adnan Ismail, who is the third Maldivian female surgeon, is now a full-time consultant in Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital located at HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.

With the inclusion of Dr Althaf, the hospital now has a team of three surgeons. The two remaining surgeons are from Egypt.

Dr Althaf completed her MBBS degree from India’s Bharati Vidyapeeth University Medical College and her Master in Surgery (MS) from Nepal’s National Institute of Medicine.

After her Master’s degree, she decided to join Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. According to the doctor, she chose the hospital in order to provide service to the vast amount of people coming in from the nearby three atolls.

“The management is very supportive. I am very pleased. This is a positive management” said Dr Althaf, sharing her initial experiences with the hospital.

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital will be developed into a tertiary hospital under the government’s action plan. Recently, Dr Mohamed Nazeef became the first permanent Maldivian physician at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

In addition to the two Maldivian consultants, doctors from Egypt, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Palestine are currently working at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
