First of all, walk us through the step-by-step processes that you went through to get to where you are today?

I did my secondary school from Dharumavantha School and completed my high school education from CHSE. During the time in CHSE, I gave tuition to students in O level.

After completion of school I joined ADK hospital and worked their as a clinical assistant for about 6 months. While working there, I did some research on places good for medicine. I found out from many doctors and other students that Nepal was an excellent place to pursue medicine. Hence, via Glonet I applied to the college where I am studying currently.

When did you first realize you wanted to study medicine?

Becoming a doctor wasn't my first choice, but it has always been a second one. I always wanted to become a pilot.

However, during my time in CHSE, I realized that becoming a doctor might be a better choice. I always had an interest in helping people. Moreover, my family members also wanted to me to become a doctor, so a lot of factors contributed for me to choose to study medicine.

My father always says, 'a doctor's job is something you can have for lifelong.'

Take us through a typical study day.

My current class hours start at 6:30 am due to the hot weather during summer. So, I usually wake up around 5:30am. Classes last until 12:30 pm as of now.(Normal class times are 9:00am to 5:00pm with lunch break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm).

After coming home, I take my lunch and watch something to relax. I do some studying after that and go to gym where I spent about 2 hours. The rest of the day I spend for studying while taking breaks in between. Currently, I go to bed around 11:30 pm to 12 am.

How do you handle your unproductive days?

I just give myself a little motivational speech.

What does success look like for you?

Success for me is being happy with what I do, and the peace of mind you get when you have achieved something that you have set a target on.

Name your favorite medical text book.

Essentials of Human Anatomy by Dr. Asim Kumar Datta

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you first started medical school?

You don't get the time you wish you get to study. You never complete studying everything completely.

What do you think needs to change in the health industry of the Maldives today?

During the time I worked as a clinical assistant, I found out that during school holidays, a lot of people from the islands travel to Male' for consultations. So, I believe that, good quality health services need to available in different areas of the country. Specialist and super-specialist doctors need to be available in those areas so that people don't have to spend a lot of money every time they require medical attention.

Finally, what is the one tip/advice you want to give to our readers?

Choose to become a doctor if you really really want to be one, don't choose because someone asked you to.
